Civic Engagement
Building the future we deserve
As a child in elementary school, I’d watch my public school Spanish teacher, my father, lead strikes and use his voice at forums and conferences to better the circumstances and resources for his students and fellow co-workers. Sometimes, I’d join him and watch in awe. His tenacity inspired my interest in promoting civic engagement in my community.
Civic engagement is one of the most powerful ways to make collective change; voting is only one example of civic engagement. Other ways include marching, advocacy, testifying, volunteering or donating to the causes you care about, and more. In my several years of organizing, I have developed the skill of connecting with my family, friends, and neighbors by centering their interests and offering training in areas such as relational organizing. I strive to empower my community to become civically engaged in their communities.
